DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!

This is Bayelsa United's goal against Gombe United in the week 38 clash at the Pantani Stadium in Gombe that was inexplicably dissallowed by referee Leo Martins. From what you can see, is there anything wrong with this goal? Should it have been dissallowed? Is this one of the reasons referees are regularly assaulted in the Glo Premier League and other leagues in Nigeria? JOIN IN THE DEBATE!

  1. I saw the goal and couldn't fathom why it was ruled as a no goal by the referee. That man is a disgrace; when CAF and FIFA see things like this they become scared of inviting Nigerian referees to ther competitions. This is scandalous!

  2. I don't know why a referee with much experience like Leo Martin's of Kaduna will be involve in such an unsporting act but I know it is very wrong for a respectable journalist like Toyin Ibitoye will make a statement or ask a question like "Is this one of the reasons referees are regularly assaulted in the Glo Premier League and other leagues in Nigeria?" am not by anyway trying to justify what happened in Gombe but my point is, if Leo's act in Gombe last weekend is good enough to earn him a life ban just like many people has cried out for then the act of that young man from FCT that handled the match between Niger Tornadoes and Mighty Jet in Minna deserves to earn him a promotion to the highest league in the country not just a commendation by whoever. The guy was nearly killed at the stadium for refusing to compromise standard. I learnt that he faced the O&D committee of the Federation and was cleared of all allegation by the home team but was he rewarded or compensated, that I don't know. the case, am sure was not on your show (sports tonight). The reform and transformation required in our leagues will only be possible if we all refuse to compromise standard no matter the pressure.
