GHANA THROUGH TO BRAZIL!

Ghana sealed a third straight World Cup finals slot despite losing 2-1 to Egypt on Tuesday night in the return leg of the 2014 playoff played at the Air Defense Stadium in Cairo.

The Black Stars advanced 7-3 on aggregate to become the fourth African country to qualify for next year's finals in Brazil.

Egypt went ahead on 25 minutes through Amir Zaki after Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda made a hash of an Aboutreika freekick. Six minutes away from time, substitute Gedo was put through by danger man Ahmed Salah and he blasted past Dauda.

But against the run of play, Asamoah Gyan slid a ball through for Kevin-Prince Boateng, who replaced Abdul Majeed Waris to finish off a consolation in the 89th minute.

Egypt's Shikabala had a glorious chance to make it 3-1 but the substitute amazingly shot wide.

"WE SHOWED TOO MUCH RESPECT!" - Keshi

Nigeria would have beaten four-time world champions Italy on Monday but showed them too much respect, according to coach Stephen Keshi.

Monday night’s friendly at Craven Cottage ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

“Maybe, we had too much of respect for them, but am sure if by chance we meet at the World Cup, we will put up a better performance,” Keshi looking back at the game.

He therefore demanded more work and focus from his players in the lead-up to next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

“It’s time to go back and work hard for our various clubsides and stay healthy, because that will form the basis for invitation when we resume next year,” he said.

“The truth is that not everybody here will go to the World Cup, but that is how football goes, so those who want to be part of the team must remain fit and play regularly for their clubsides.”

England-based stars like Mikel Obi, Shola Ameobi and Victor Moses have since rejoined their clubs.

Keshi and other team officials are expected back in Nigeria on Thursday morning, as they will depart London Wednesday night via Heathrow Airport for Lagos.

Keshi is expected to start preparations for the 2014 CHAN early December, with only home-based professionals. The event holds in January in South Africa.

KESHI PHILOSOPHICAL

Super Eagles boss, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, has said there is need for first grade professionalism, total concentration and presence of mind at all times when the national team takes on their Ethiopian counterparts in the second leg, final round qualifier against Ethiopia on Saturday afternoon in Calabar.

The game is scheduled for the UJ Esuene Stadium and fans, supporters and administrators of the game have been trooping into Calabar City for the encounter.

"We have never played Ethiopia before, infact we don’t know them, but we want to win against them and win well," Keshi said during a last minute chat with the media in Calabar after the Eagles last training session in the Canaan City.

He however expressed optimism that the team will not let the nation down in Saturday’s game despite the fact that the Ethiopians have not lost any game away in the qualifiers.

'We have also not lost any game away and we are the champions of Africa, we must be ready at all times for any opposition and I think that is what we are set to do on Saturday," he said.

INTER MILAN GET NEW PRESIDENT AS MORATTI STEPS DOWN

Erick Thohir has been elected the new president of Inter Milan at a general board meeting.

After 18 years at the helm of the Serie A club, Thohir’s predecessor, Massimo Moratti, said the time had come to "pass the reins" to Thohir, who has taken a 70 percent share in the club.
“I am leaving this club with the certainty that I am leaving it to people who have a sense of responsibility and respect for the colours and the history of Inter,” Moratti said at a news conference in Milan. “Even meeting them yesterday at Appiano [Gentile, the club’s training ground] gave me the faith that we can move on and create something new.
“I'd like to thank everybody for giving me this marvellous experience and I wish everybody even greater successes to come.”
Massimo's son Angelomario will assume his family’s place on the board, with Massimo bidding the club adieu on an historic day as Thohir thanked his “friend and new partner” for his faith and support.
“Today is a very special day in my life,” he said. “Inter embodies within itself a splendid history of passion, a winning tradition and strong ambitions. Our conviction lies in our passion, which will pave the way for Inter to have new, greater successes. Forza Inter.”
The Indonesian plans to make Inter one of the top 10 clubs in the world over the next decade, counting on the hard work and support of everybody within the club while trying to attract new fans from Asia and the United States, all with the scope of “creating a winning team.”
Moratti will be honorary president of the new Inter, although he says it is only right that Thohir becomes the new authoritative figure, having turned down the chance to remain in his role.
“The new partners insisted that I or my son remain president, and I thank them for it,” he said. “Obviously it was not easy in terms of my affection, or given how close I felt the fans and the Inter people were to me, but thinking pragmatically, it was right to find a new partner, a partner who has the vivacity and ambition to bring something new to the club.
“Thohir will take this enthusiasm to countries which are growing and see Inter as a jewel. I and my son will try to be helpful to them.”
Thohir made a promising start to life as Inter's new president with his first words in Italian: Evoking a favourite chant of the Nerazzurri fans, he said the only people not jumping are Rossoneri.

"I'M 100% CONFIDENT!" - Sewnet Bishaw

Ethiopia coach Sewnet Bishaw has vowed his men will give whatever it takes to overturn a first-leg defeat when they take on Nigeria in their World Cup play-off on Saturday.
Ethiopia hope to continue their surprising World Cup journey when they face Nigeria in the return leg, despite a 2-1 loss at home in mid-October.
Bishaw said in an interview "This is the biggest match of my life. I want to win it. I'll fight to the maximum.
"There's no problem in my squad. All of my players are fit and the mood in the camp is very high. Everybody is waiting for the kick-off whistle."
Nigeria won the first leg in Addis Ababa courtesy of a brace from Emanuel Emenike and the Super Eagles are clear favourites to book a place at next year's tournament in Brazil, which would be their fifth appearance at a finals.
However, Bishaw is confident his side can come back.
"I'm 100% confident of overturning the result. I'll only play for a win. Football involves a defeat and a win. We're defeated in the first leg doesn't mean we'll be defeated in the second leg," he said.
"I've not finished the match. I've 90 minutes left to play. I'll fight for a 2-0 win or for a 2-1 to take it in to extra-time. So, I want to remind them that it's not over yet."
Bishaw revealed he will leave it until the last moment possible to select his side in the quest to take the east Africans to their first finals.
The big boost for Bishaw is the return of his joint top scorer, Getaneh Kebede The striker missed the first leg of the play-offs because of an ankle injury.

"ETHIOPIA WILL BE TOUGH!" - Onazi

Lazio midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi reckons Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex will give the Super Eagles a torrid time when the two sides face off in a second leg World Cup qualifying playoff in Calabar on Saturday.
The Super Eagles won the reverse fixture 2-1 in October and are now heavy favourites to progress to next year’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Onazi however believes things will be a lot more complicated when the two sides eventually face off on Saturday and insists the Ethiopians showed great hunger for the solitary ticket up for grabs in the first leg in Addis Ababa.

“The Ethiopians did not really surprise me with the way they played (in the first leg) because I have been watching videos of their previous games.

“Our coach (Stephen Keshi) also told us that this Ethiopian team has been together for over five years so we knew we would be in for a difficult game.
“They showed in that first leg that they want to play in the World Cup and they will repeat that kind of performance (on Saturday),” Onazi said.

The 20-year-old then warned his teammates to avoid the pitfall of playing individualistic football which he predicted will spell doom for the African champions.

“If we don’t play as a team (on Saturday), we will lose (the game). The good thing is that one of our strongest points in this team is our unity. We play as a unit and fight for one another as brothers. We must continue to do that. We must not take Ethiopia for granted because they have never been to the World Cup before and they will want to get there.
We must give our all to ensure that it is Nigeria’s flag that will be hoisted at the World Cup and not Ethiopia’s,” he concluded.

BRAZIL 2014: "BRAZIL AND ITALY ARE THE BIGGEST THREATS!" - Mata

Spain midfielder Juan Mata is wary of the threat posed by hosts Brazil and four-time champions Italy at the FIFA World Cup next year. Vicente del Bosque's Spain won their first World Cup in South Africa three years ago and they will be among the favourites to lift the trophy again next year.

The Spaniards also won a second successive UEFA European Championship last year after ending their long wait to be crowned world champions.

"I think it’s going to be really, really hard to win this tournament because obviously some of the countries that are going to be there are also really fighting to make it to the final, " he said. "For me Brazil, the hosts, have a great, great squad with young players. They beat us in the Confederations Cup last summer. Italy too are going to really fight with us for the title."

Much is made of Spain's technical brilliance and attractive brand of football, but former Valencia man Mata has revealed that the spirit in the squad is also key to their success.

"Talking about our national team, Spain, to be honest, it’s going to be very special for me to be there (the World Cup)," he added. "I feel so lucky to be training with such a team because we know each other really well. We know how to play because we are friends off the pitch, it’s very important. If you are a team that wants to win you have to be like a family. I think that’s what we are in the Spanish team. Probably that’s one of the secrets that the Spanish have."

He continued, "Playing in the World Cup is the greatest experience for any player. I had the opportunity to play in South Africa and win our country's first ever World Cup, so it will be fantastic to be part of that team again.

"We are facing a big challenge: to be world champions again and keep writing history. And it will be a dream come true to play and win a World Cup and in Brazil, a country that loves football."

WAHALA IN SWEDEN!

The Swedish Football Association has caused a storm in the famously gender-equal country by giving Anders Svensson a car to mark his record 146 caps while his female counterpart walked away empty-handed.

Midfielder Svensson was presented with the key to a brand new Volvo during the annual Fotbollsgalan ceremony on Monday in recognition of breaking Thomas Ravelli's record of 143 caps. Also in the audience, however, was 36-year-old midfielder Therese Sjogran who has a record 187 caps for the national women's team.

Sjogran was part of the Sweden side that lost a Euro 2013 semi-final on home soil to Germany as women's football fever swept through Sweden and many of her team mates expressed their displeasure on Twitter.
Their comments sparked an immediate storm as viewers and fans watching the gala strongly criticised the association for not treating men and women equally.

The association acknowledged its mistake, saying it had always intended to honour Sjogran but that she was still playing whereas Svensson is expected to retire after the current World Cup campaign.
"In retrospect we probably could have communicated it better and more clearly," SvFF chairman Karl-Erik Nilsson told state broadcaster SVT on Tuesday.

Sjogran, initially reluctant to comment, expressed her disappointment to SVT.
"It's not about the car itself, it's the way they did it," she said. "If they honoured him they should honour me."

CHINEKE! CHELSEA STILL PAYING DI MATTEO'S SALARY!

According to an extraordinary report in British newspaper the Daily Mail, Chelsea are still paying former manager Roberto Di Matteo £130,000 per week, or an eye-watering £6.7m per year. Di Matteo, who won the FA Cup and the Champions League in 2012 after stepping in to replace Andre Villas-Boas, was sacked as Chelsea manager in November of the same year after failing to impress Roman Abramovich with his team's performances both home and abroad.

However, the Mail reports the Italian was unable to reach an agreement with Chelsea's owner over a pay-off, and so continues to collect the salary he once earned at Stamford Bridge.

According to the report:

"The Italian was unable to reach a settlement with owner Roman Abramovich on his three-year deal when he was fired six months after winning the Champions League as interim boss."

"Di Matteo has already banked almost £7million and will continue to pick up the king-sized salary until June 2014, meaning he is reluctant to take on another job for less money."

"ABEG I NO BE YEKINI O!" - Emenike

"Rashidi Yekini's shoes are still too big for me to wear. I am only trying to do what I know is best for my fatherland, and I have not done anything yet," Emenike said.

"I still have a lot to do to get to the heights reached by such a legend."

Emenike has scored nine goals in 18 appearances for Nigeria since making his debut in 2011.

BRAZIL 2014: "AFRICAN TEAMS WILL BE DANGEROUS!" - Hodgson

England manager Roy Hodgson feels African countries have an edge over their European rivals at next year's World Cup in Brazil. An African team has never progressed beyond the quarter-final stage of the event, with Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana getting the furthest in 1990, 2002 and 2010 respectively.

But Hodgson believes that the climate in Brazil will help the teams.
"I think they may have a stronger chance than any of the European teams because of the climate," wrote Hodgson in the programme notes for Monday night's friendly between Nigeria and Italy at Craven Cottage. "There are many African players out there of excellent quality now," Hodgson added. "They play in the top European leagues and that makes the African nations very strong."

England have already booked their place at the competition, while the African qualifying play-offs will concluded this weekend with five spots up for grabs.

LARGERBACK GUNNING FOR ANOTHER WORLD CUP APPEARANCE!

Who remembers former Super Eagles coach Lars Largerback? Well the 65 year old Swede is hoping to appear at the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Iceland if they can beat Croatia in the European World Cup play-offs.

"Because they haven't made it to a final tournament before, it makes it extra big for them," he said in an interview before the first leg in Reykjavik on Friday. "From being a small country and not believing it in the beginning, it's bigger in that way," said the man who took Sweden to five major championships in a row in 11 years.

"They didn't have any huge hopes after a few tough years. If we do it, it would mean a little more than qualifying with Sweden."

Lagerback showed his usual modesty, playing down his own role and saying there were many factors resulting in the tiny island nation being on the brink of qualification. "Six or seven years ago they built seven full-size indoor pitches. That means that they can train and play football year-round," he said.

"Then there's been a generation of young players who went to the 2011 European U21 finals in Denmark. They're the framework of the team now. A lot of them have gone to good clubs and they're all playing."
In previous years even the most ardent soccer fan would be hard-pressed to name an Icelandic player other than former Barcelona and Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen. But the likes of Kolbeinn Sigthorsson (Ajax) and Gylfi Sigurdsson (Tottenham Hotspur) are starting to put the country on the football map.

Lagerback said resources were less available in Iceland and he does his own video analysis of opponents, a task usually given to the coach's staff. He splits his time between the two capital cities, working as a soccer pundit for cable TV station Viasat in Sweden before heading over to Iceland for weeks at a time. Success has also led to a huge growth in interest in the team. Tickets to Friday's match sold out in two hours, contrary to many previous internationals.

Lagerback's pride in reaching the playoffs is obvious, but he is not content to stop there. "We have been underdogs the whole time. Many asked me when I took the job, 'why take Iceland? What chance do you have?
If we succeed now, when nobody has given us a chance - you heard the playoff draw, everyone wanted us - if we do it, it would mean a little more than qualifying with Sweden."

"WE MUST BE CAREFUL AGAINST ETHIOPIA." - Emenike

Super Eagles' striker Emmanuel Emenike expects his team's second leg against Ethiopia will be tougher than the first despite having home-ground advantage. The 26-year-old striker will be one of the key players for Nigeria when they host Ethiopia on Saturday in Calabar for a spot at next year's World Cup in Brazil.

Emenike is in good form, having scored both goals as Nigeria won the first leg in Ethiopia 2-1 last month, while he was also the co-top scorer at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, which Nigeria won in February.
Although Nigeria leads Ethiopia heading into Saturday's match, Emenike is not getting too carried away with his nation's chances.

"The game in Calabar will be tougher for us than the one in Addis Ababa (in Ethiopia). We have to be careful and get ready for another big business in Calabar," Emenike told. "Ethiopia are very good and they will be coming here with more tricks. So, we shouldn't see the first victory as the end of road."

While Emenike has warned his teammates about Ethiopia, the striker is quietly confident about Nigeria's chances of qualifying for Brazil 2014. "I am glad to have played in the Nations Cup and won but I am dreaming of playing in my first World Cup for Nigeria," Emenike said. "That will be the first time I will be at the World Cup and to get to play in Brazil, where they are crazy about football, would be a dream come true."

UPGRADE!

The Nigeria Football Federation have announced world champions Golden Eaglets will be promoted to the country’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles. The NFF have also disclosed  that they will elevate one of the three coaches of the Golden Eaglets with the team to the U20.
It is most likely head coach Manu Garba will be moved up to handle the Flying Eagles, while his assistants Nduka Ugbade and Emmanuel Amuneke take charge of the new class of Golden Eaglets.

NFF chairman technical and development committee, Chris Green, said: "We have plans to graduate these Golden Eaglets to the Flying Eagles.

"The coaching crew shall be split, some remain in the U17 and others in the U20. And this is because we want the teams to maintain a playing pattern which is attacking football."

Green added: "And these players would graduate to the U23s and maybe Super Eagles, while other players coming from the ranks would have learnt the playing culture of the country."

"IF I GET THE CALL, I'LL ANSWER." - UCHE

In-form Villarreal striker Ikechukwu Uche says he is not concerned by his continued omission from Stephen Keshi's Nigeria squad. He is not part of Keshi's plans for the second leg of their World Cup play-off against Ethiopia despite three goals in his last four matches in Spain.
"Sometimes it [snub] crosses my mind but I remain a fan of the Super Eagles."
"If I get another chance I'll honour the call," he said. Nigeria hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg of the World Cup play-off ahead of Saturday's second leg in Calabar.
Bright Dike, who plays for Toronto FC in the MLS, has been called up by Nigeria as replacement for Uche Nwofor ahead of the match.
Injured Nosa Igiebor has pulled out of the tie as well as the friendly against Italy in London on 18 November.
"Since I'm not in the squad I can only wish the team well.
"I'm very happy with my form, fitness and encouraging performance at club level."
Uche's last appearance for the Super Eagles was in the final of the 2013 African Cup of Nations against Burkina Faso in February.
Despite emerging as top scorer during the tournament's qualifiers with three goals, he failed to shine in South Africa and has since been overlooked by the selector.
He has slipped behind Emmanuel Emenike, Brown Ideye and Shola Ameobi in Keshi's plans over the last ten months.
But he insists an international snub has not dampened his spirit and optimism.
"I've played almost every game for Villarreal this season and proved I can perform at the highest level," he continued.
"I'm feeling good, fit and motivated and as long as I keep performing I will keep pushing my name up the list."
One of his nation's all-time top ten scorers Uche knows the past count for nothing.
"You can only look back and feel proud of your achievement with the national team and nothing more," he insisted
"Right now it's a development squad [the Super Eagles], which means it's something for the future with guys that are going to be playing for Nigeria in years to come.
"I'm basically working very hard with my club and will let the future take care of itself."

"IT'S NOT OVER YET!" - Salhadin Said

The Walia Antelopes of Ethiopia all time goalscorer Salhadin Said is upbeat ahead of their crucial return match against Nigeria on Saturday in Calabar. However ‘Sala’ as he is popularly known by his peers still remembers about his ‘goal’ that denied by the referee when the two sides met in October saying it was one of his worst moments in football.

Despite the disappointment, Salhadin is delighted to welcome his striking partner Getaneh Kebede who has been given a clean bill of health and is expected to start in Calabar.

"It’s amazing how times flies and within a few days we will meet Nigeria once again. It will be a tough match but all in all football is a game that you cannot predict. The first leg was not good for me after my goal was disallowed this really affected me but I have now overcome that and am now ready to give a performance of my life against our opponents."

"Nigeria might have the upper hand by virtue of the away goals but I believe it’s not over until the 90 minutes are done and am happy Getaneh is back to fitness and hopefully we can both help our beloved team to score the important goals in Calabar," Salhadin said.

Salhadin is expected to join his team mates on Tuesday ahead of the Saturday match that is a must win for the Walia who have had a good run in the World cup qualifiers.

"MY BOY IS WORTH A MILLION EUROS!" - Iheanacho's father

Star of the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup in the UAE, Kelechi Iheanacho, is now valued at a million Euros by his father. Iheanacho scored six goals and created seven more at the tournament as Nigeria clinched a record fourth title in fine style. It was has now been learn't that Iheanacho’s father has now asked the rash of clubs and agents scrambling over themselves for the exciting player to cough out a million Euros (more than 200 million Naira) or look elsewhere. Hence, FC Porto’s 250,000 Euros offer for the gifted forward was outrightly dismissed.

The mad scramble for Iheanacho has caused at least seven agents to meet at the team’s hotel in the UAE to finally agree that all of them will get a percentage of the player’s transfer fee as they all have authentic mandates given to them by his handlers.

“Kelechi father has said his boy will go for nothing less than a million Euros and to add to all these, at least seven agents have mandates for the boy,” a source revealed.

“Such was a chaos that these agents had to come together in Dubai and agreed that whoever gets to finally sell the boy, all the other agents will also be entitled to a percentage of this sale.”

The player himself said that he is unaware of the offers that have poured in for him since his heroics in the UAE.

"I am not aware of offers coming my way yet but my aim is to go and further my career in Europe," he said.

"I am very grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to showcase my skills on an international stage. Words are not enough to express my joy."

He further said his dream club is FC Barcelona. "I cannot pick a club or country now but my preferred club is Barcelona but I know that I cannot play for them now at this age but someday I may get that opportunity," he said.

MESSI OUT FOR TWO MONTHS!

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been ruled out for between six and eight weeks because of a hamstring injury. The 26-year-old limped off in Sunday's 4-1 away win over Real Betis and has a muscle tear in his left hamstring.

The Argentina international has been hampered by injuries this season and had to be substituted against Atletico Madrid in August with a left thigh problem.

He also injured his thigh against Almeria in September. Messi picked up the latest injury after 18 minutes against Betis, with tests on Monday revealing the extent of the problem.

A Barcelona statement read: "The club's medical services confirmed that Leo Messi has a torn hamstring muscle in his left thigh and is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks.
"The first phase of Messi's recovery will be covered in Barcelona and he will then travel to Buenos Aires."
The injury will mean the World Player of the Year will miss Argentina's friendlies against Ecuador and Bosnia & Herzegovina in November as well as a number of domestic matches.

Messi, who scored twice for Barcelona in their Chanpions League win over AC Milan last week to secure his side's progress to the knockout stage, is set to miss his side's remaining two group games against Ajax and Celtic.

NFF TO BORROW MONEY FOR ETHIOPIA!

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will again have to borrow for next weekend’s 2014 World Cup playoff against Ethiopia, officials disclosed.

The NFF need at least 50 million Naira for a November 16 playoff for a place at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

This cost has been reduced because of the part sponsorship from the Cross Rivers State Government.

This will be to cover match bonuses as well as the return ticket refunds for the team and also logistical costs.

“We will again be forced to borrow to fund this match,” a top NFF official revealed.

“We are seriously broke as we only receive a monthly subvention of 52 million Naira from government and this is far from adequate to cover our many costs.”

NFF finances took a direct hit when the over 700 million Naira spent for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations was removed from the federation’s annual budget by government.

“It was to have been a special grant but government later decided it should come from our budget,” another top official said.

Nigeria have a foot at Brazil 2014 after they beat hosts Ethiopia 2-1 in the first leg of the playoffs last month.

SHAKHTAR HUNTING FOR EAGLETS!

Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk are the latest club to show interest in players of the Golden Eaglets led by new star Taiwo Awoniyi. The other players who have caught the eyes of Shakhtar are skipper Musa Muhammed, Samuel Okon and Musa Yahaya.

"ENGLAND CAN WIN WORLD CUP!" - Beckham

Former England star David Beckham believes Roy Hodgson's side will enter the 2014 FIFA World Cup believing they can win it. England have not reached the final four of a World Cup since 1990 and have won the tournament just once, in 1966.

Despite sitting 10th in the FIFA world rankings, Beckham - who won 115 caps for England - feels that Hodgson's squad will feel confident about their chances at next year's showpiece in Brazil.

"I'm always optimistic about when England go into competitions because I've been there, I've felt how it is when you go into a big competition," Beckham told Sky Sports News. "Roy's come in and changed the team around a lot, introducing a lot of young, talented players to the squad. When you go through a qualifying campaign, there's always ups and downs, it's like a rollercoaster.

"But when you actually reach the competition, once you've qualified, everyone calms down and everyone starts looking forward to the competition that's coming up.

"I think you always go into competitions thinking you're going to win it."

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder acknowledged the size of the task but picked Tottenham winger Andros Townsend as an example of why England can shock the footballing world.
"It's obviously very difficult because you come up against some of the best countries with some of the best players in the world," he said. "But we have some young players coming through like Andros Townsend, who has come into the team and there's a freshness now. He is playing without any worries and that's great to see.

"He's a player who hasn't always been in the starting line-up, he's gone out on loan a few times, but he's now one who's established in the England team.

"This is the biggest football competition in the world, with the best players in the world, but we'll see. I hope we can go all the way."

The 2014 FIFA World Cup draw will be made on December 6.

FIRST GROUP DONATES $30,000 TO KANU HEART FOUNDATION

As part of efforts to help Nigerians suffering from heart-related diseases, Dubai based Property Company, The First Group, has donated $30,000 to the Kanu Heart Foundation. The donation was made in Lagos on Tuesday at the KHF secretariat in Ikeja.

The Chief Operating Officer, TFG, Rob Burns, while presenting the cheque to CEO, KHF, Onyebuchi Abia, described the man behind the foundation and Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu, as a ‘passionate person.’ Burns said, “Kanu is a very generous person and this something that is very dear to his heart and also something that he is very passionate about. When you see him at the foundation talking to the children, you will see that this is something that actually means a lot to him.

“He’s been doing everything he can to raise money but it is very expensive to send children overseas for their operations. We see what he is doing with KHF as a very important step to helping humanity. We are very happy to identify with him.”

Burns, who also made a special presentation to one of the heart patients, 29-year-old Chukwuma Okeke from Anambra State, called on ‘successful Nigerians’ to contribute to the worthy cause.
Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games medallist Kanu said he was grateful for the support. He however stated that the foundation could have done better but for unfulfilled promises.

He said, “It’s been a fantastic relationship (between TFG and KHF) and they have also partnered the foundation. Yearly, they come to our aid by helping the kids on the waiting list. “What they’ve done is fantastic and I am very grateful for them helping us to save souls. But our progress has been slow because a lot of people have promised us heaven on earth but we are still chasing them around. So we have employed other means to help these affected kids. We have started a lottery where you can buy N100 ticket and win a car. It’s not about winning but about helping.”
